Titanic & Maritime
Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd are the world’s leaders in the sale of Titanic liner memorabilia — described by Stanley Lehrer, owner of the world’s largest collection of Titanic memorabilia, as the “leading source of high end ocean liner collectibles in the world”. We hold the world record for the most valuable item of Titanic memorabilia sold at auction: the gold pocket watch owned and worn on Titanic by Isidor Straus, which sold for £1.78m. Sir Arthur Rostron’s pocket watch made over £1.5m in November 2024, and other notable prices include £1.1m for the watch worn by John Jacob Astor and £1.1m for Wallace Hartley’s Titanic violin.
We hold two dedicated auctions a year with bound printed catalogues, and an online auction in the summer, and handle material from the Olympic, Britannic, Lusitania, Queen Mary, Empress of Ireland, the White Star Line and Cunard — from single items to major collections.
Ceramics and Glass
We hold two dedicated sales of British and Continental Ceramics and Glass a year, headed up by one of the country’s leading specialists. These auctions include all areas of production from medieval to studio pottery, with a focus on the 18th century. We specialise in the sale of private collections and are also happy to consider one-off consignments; fully illustrated catalogues are produced and we have a strong following of private collectors and specialist dealers.
Jewellery, Silver & Gold
A dedicated part of our auctions of collectors’ items. Highlights have included a Tiffany & Co bespoke presentation trophy awarded in 1912 (£130,000), a pair of gold tumblers and strawberry dish from The Denis Lacy Hulbert Collection (£78,000), a silver cigarette case given by Oscar Wilde to Lord Alfred Douglas (£20,000) and one of the finest collections of silver and gold corkscrews to come to market in 25 years (over £250,000).
Collectors’ Items
Our collectables department has a group of dedicated and passionate specialists with decades of experience. Each of our auctions features toys, stamps, manuscripts, posters, ceramics and cigarette cards. Highlights include a collection of motor racing posters that made over £20,000, a Titanic return-voyage poster at £76,000, a rare Suffragette poster at £3,000 and the world’s most valuable postcard at £89,000.
