Conditions of Sale
These Conditions of Sale and Business constitute the contract between Henry Aldridge & Son Ltd (the “Auctioneer”) and the seller, on the one hand, and the buyer on the other. By bidding at the auction, you agree to be bound by these terms.
Buyer’s premium
The buyer agrees to pay a buyer’s premium on the hammer price of each lot purchased. The buyer’s premium is 23.5% of the hammer price up to and including £500,000, 20% of the hammer price from £500,001 up to and including £1,000,000, and 15% of the hammer price in excess of £1,000,001. VAT at the prevailing rate of 20% is added to the buyer’s premium and additional charges. Lots bought via our own online bidding service carry an additional 3% commission plus VAT on the hammer price.
Estimates & descriptions
Estimates do not include the buyer’s premium or VAT (where chargeable); the lower estimate may represent the reserve and will not be below it. Condition reports are provided on request; the absence of a report does not imply that a lot is without imperfections. Mechanical objects of any age are not guaranteed to be in working order, and electrical goods are sold as ‘antiques’ only. We recommend that you always view a lot in person.
Commission bids
Commission bids may be left with the auctioneers indicating the maximum amount to be bid excluding buyer’s premium. They will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to the reserve (if any) and competing bids. If two identical commission bids are received, the first received may be preferred.
Payment
We accept UK debit cards, all major UK-issued credit cards (except American Express and Diners Club) and bank transfer quoting the sale number, lot number and your bidder number. A surcharge applies to payments by non-EU debit and credit cards. Title does not pass until payment has been made in full.
Collection & storage
Buyers shall at their own risk and expense collect lots purchased and paid for not later than 5 working days following the day of the auction, after which you are responsible for any removal, storage and insurance charges. Interest at up to 1.5% per month may be charged on amounts unpaid more than 7 working days after the sale.
Forgeries & Droit de Suite
Any lot which proves to be a deliberate forgery (as defined in our full conditions) may be returned within 28 days of the auction. Artist’s Resale Right (Droit de Suite) royalties are added to qualifying lots selling for more than the sterling equivalent of €1,000.
